What's new on Disney+ for kids and families in April 2020

Disney+ is always adding to their library of movies, tv shows and shorts to watch. Here's what your family can look forward to in April 2020.

New content is coming to Disney+! The streaming service from Disney has announced which new TV shows and movies will be added to its lineup next month, and of course that means, more options for the whole family! There’s a handful of titles to look forward to in April, including a new Earth Month Collection and new weekly episodes of your favourite Disney+ Originals—plus, the new Pixar movie Onward is coming to the platform early! Check out the full lineup with specific release dates below.

But first, an important note: The age recommendations offered below are approximate. Every kid is different, and you’re the best judge of what’s appropriate and what your kid can handle.

Onward

Best for: 6+
Teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad, embarking on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere. Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior – aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer) – and heads off to find them. Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Final Season

Shop Class

Best for: 6+
Youthful ingenuity is on display in this new competition series that features teams of inventive students tasked with designing, building, and testing new contraptions to vie for the title of Shop Class Champs. New episodes every Friday until April 17

Disney Family Sundays

Best for: 3+
Crafter extraordinaire, Amber Kemp-Gerstel, shares her passion for crafting with young families in a series of Disney-inspired DIY projects. New episodes every Friday in April

Be Our Chef

Best for: 6+
Families who love to cook together compete to make themed dishes inspired by your favourite Disney characters. New episodes every Friday in April

Doctor Doolittle

A doctor discovers that he can communicate with animals. Available April 1

Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings

Viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at the magical weddings and one-of-a-kind engagements that take place at Disney Destinations around the globe. Season finale available April 3

A Tale of Two Critters

A bear cub and a raccoon become fast friends when they’re swept away down a river, away from their families. Available April 3

Don’s Fountain of Youth

On a trip to Florida, Donald and his nephews encounter the Fountain of Youth—and a family of alligators. Available April 3

Donald’s Dog Laundry

Best for: 4+
Donald Duck builds an automated dog washer while an unsuspecting Pluto naps nearby. When Donald finishes and announces his plan to use Pluto as his test subject, a battle of wills ensues. Available April 3

Double Dribble

Best for: 4+
It’s the big college basketball game; everyone playing looks like Goofy, and he’s the only fan of the visiting team P.U. Available April 3

Dragon Around

Best for: 4+
Chip and Dale think they see a dragon coming toward their tree. It’s really just Donald with a power shovel, clearing the way for a freeway, but he decides to play along, fitting a welding torch to the jaws for an appropriate flame. Available April 3

Elmer Elephant

Best for: 4+
The other children at a birthday party mock Elmer Elephant for his big nose, but it proves useful when he needs to save the birthday girl from a fire in her tree house. Available April 3

Fish Hooks, Seasons 1-3

Three friends attend a school for fish submerged in a pet shop tank. Available April 3

How to Play Football

Best for: 4+
It’s Taxidermy Tech vs. Anthropology A&M for this introduction to college football (first piece of special equipment needed: a campus covered in ivy). Available April 3

Lambert, The Sheepish Lion

Best for: 4+
A delivery stork mistakenly delivers Lambert, a lion cub, to a flock of sheep. The mother won’t let the stork take him back, so Lambert is raised as a sheep, but he just doesn’t fit in. Available April 3

On Ice

Best for: 4+
Mickey shows off his ice-skating skills to Minnie; Goofy does some unconventional ice fishing; Donald straps skates to Pluto and laughs at his attempts to skate. Available April 3

Out of Scale

Best for: 4+
Donald Duck has a model train and town laid out in his yard. He decides to move a live tree that doesn’t match the model scale, not realizing it is home to chipmunks Chip and Dale. Available April 3

Penguins

A coming-of-age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family.. Available April 3

It’s Pluto’s birthday party, but Mickey’s dozen or so nephews seem to be having all the fun. Available April 3

Sea Scouts

Donald has a large sailboat, and his crew consists of his three nephews. But between his own clumsiness, and that of his inexperienced (but not mean) crew, the sailing is anything but smooth, particularly when Donald has a run-in with a shark. Available April 3

Sonny with a Chance, Seasons 1-3

Sonny, a talented Midwestern girl, has won a nationwide talent search to move to Los Angeles and star in a popular television series. Sonny’s home and work life is documented along with her adjustment to life in the spotlight. Available April 3

The New Neighbor
