Why buy when you can barter?
You say you’re on top of your budget but money’s still tight? PEI mom Kerry Dickieson has saved thousands by trading and bartering with other parents.
“Finding yourself a community is key, whether through church or parent groups held at the local library or health centre. Reach out and don’t be afraid to ask for what you need,” she advises.
Here are some of her money-saving solutions:
1. Swap babysitting for her son’s piano lessons: $60 a month
2. Hold a decorating party instead of hiring professional painters: $2,000
3. Arrange sleepover swaps instead of hiring a babysitter for date night with hubby: $30 a month
4. Collect Lego from Facebook friends for her son’s Santa present: $200
Total savings: $3,280 over past 12 months
