There's not a lot that beats the bond between a kid and their pet, and the bond between 7-year-old Madden Humphreys and his new cat Moon is truly something special.
Oklahoma mom Christina Humphreys recently posted on Facebook about how she took her family on a weekend road trip to Minnesota to adopt Moon for Madden. It took them 22 hours of driving to get there and back, and the family had to crowdfund the money to pay for gas and a hotel in Minnesota, but this cat wasn't just any cat. What made Moon worth all the effort?
You see, Madden was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate and he's been getting bullied at school for the scars on his mouth leftover from the surgery. On top of that, he also has heterochromia iridium, which means each of his eyes is a different colour—one is a bright blue and the other is green. What makes Moon a road trip-worthy cat is that he has the same craniofacial differences. Yep, Moon has two different coloured eyes AND a cleft lip
“The eyes alone would have been a big deal. When I saw the cleft, we had a conversation about … how it was amazing they were both born completely unique,” Christina told TODAY. As you can guess, the two of them together are beyond adorable. Take a look:
See? We told you their bond was special.
Christina's post has since gone viral with over five thousand reactions and almost two thousand shares. Christina said that Moon has helped Madden cope with the bullying he faces at school. “Madden has been beaming,” said Christina. “I tell Madden all the time he is magical, and I think Moon helps him realize how special he is.”
We're so glad they were able to find each other and we hope their friendship lasts for a long long time. As Christina wrote in the caption of her post, "They were destined to be best friends. Funny how a pet can make you feel less alone."
