This mom did something drastic after her tattoo artist misspelled her son's name

Honouring your kids with a special tattoo is something a lot of parents consider doing. Some folks get their kids' birth dates, some get a matching birthmark, and others simply have their kids' names etched onto their skin. However, if you're considering that last option—or any text-based tattoo, really—you have to be 100 percent sure that everything is spelled correctly so you won't have any regrets.

Unfortunately for Swedish mom Johanna Giselhäll Sandström, she trusted her artist to get things right when she got her kids' names, Nova and Kevin, tattooed on her arm, and only realized after the deed was done that the tattoo had a major typo. Yep, the artist inserted an "l" into her son's name, making it Kelvin instead of Kevin. Take a look at the tattoo here.

"I thought I was going to faint,” she told the local paper Blekinge Läns Tidning. “I said I wanted the names of my children tattooed on me and I gave the artist their names. The artist drew the design and didn’t ask anything about the spelling so I didn’t give it any more thought.”

After the artist told her there was nothing he could do besides give her a refund, Sandström looked into tattoo removal but discovered it would take multiple costly treatments to get it completely erased. So she and her husband came up with an alternative that ended up being much simpler (and much less painful!): “We decided to rename the boy,” she said.

Yep, since her now-five-year-old son was only two at the time, they decided the best course of action would be to legally change his name to Kelvin. Looking back, Sandström said that the unique name eventually grew on them and they now like it much better than Kevin.

Sandström is pretty lucky that the typo was still a reasonable name option—imagine if her tattoo had come out as Kvein instead. Although some parents will judge this mom harshly, we're into the how she made the best of a bad situation, and no harm was done to her toddler, who reportedly adjusted to the new name just fine. Sandström now has a newborn daughter, Freja.“I need to get that name tattooed but I’m going to write it down on a piece of paper and check it over ten thousand times,” she says. Here's hoping she doesn't end up with a daughter named Jafar.
