Reese Witherspoon, 37, showed up all smiles at the Mud premiere last night (Sunday), but remained mum about the wild events that transpired last Friday. Today, however, she’s issued a statement about her arrest — apologizing for her treatment of the police officer:
Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said.
It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.
The statement came in via Reese’s rep. It’s a good statement, apologetic and gracious.
Sighh, the whole thing is definitely disappointing, though (especially since a DUI is involved). But it goes to show, of course, that no one’s perfect — not even our dear, dear Reese Witherspoon. We wish her well.
