New rule! William & Kate's firstborn will inherit the throne -- even if it's a girl!

Exciting royal news! If Will and Kate's first child is a girl, she will be first in line to the throne, even if she has brothers

Welcome to the new millennium, Royal Family!

Great news, Gorgeouses! There has been a new ruling: should Prince William and Duchess Catherine have a girl first, she will be first in line to the throne -- even if she has brothers. Sayonara, 1701 Act of Settlement! (More below....)

The leaders of 16 commonwealth countries, including Canada, agreed to the rule change -- after centuries!

Here's what the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, said in a speech at the Commonwealth conference in Perth, Australia:

The idea that a younger son should become monarch instead of an elder daughter simply because he's a man, or that a future monarch can marry someone of any faith except a Catholic -- this way of thinking is at odds with the modern countries that we’ve all become.

...Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen. (qtd. in LA Times)

The Catholic marriage ban was also lifted. Here's what Prime Minister Stephen Harper had to say:

There was universal agreement, unanimous agreement that these changes simply recognize the equality of women and Catholics and they're long overdue. (qtd. in CTV.ca)

Revolutionary, huh, Gorgeouses?!

Love!
