Lance Bass’s baby announcement is so extra for the sweetest reason

Lance Bass and his husband Michael Turchin are saying “Bye Bye Bye” to their empty nest!

The couple, who got married in 2014, has always dreamed of starting a family together, and this week they announced that their dream is finally becoming a reality with the arrival of boy/girl twins this fall. They shared the exciting news with an over-the-top, Horror-style production.

"At first, we were like, 'Yeah, let's just do a simple TikTok video,'"Michael told People. But with the twins due around his favourite holiday, Lance was not prepared to keep it simple. "I love Halloween. When I found out that they were going to be coming at Halloween, I immediately thought, 'Our baby announcement has to be some kind of Halloween theme. Maybe we should do a movie trailer, a horror movie trailer where we don't actually say it. You have to figure it out.' And so that's what we did."

Sure, the production is a little intense for a baby announcement, but after going through years of heartbreak trying to start a family we totally understand why the *NSYNC alum and his hubby were eager to announce in a big way.

Lance and Michael knew going into IVF and surrogacy that it wasn't likely to work on the first try, but they had no idea just how hard it was going to be. “We went through nine different egg donors, which is rare,” Michael said. Last year, their surrogate finally became pregnant with twins, but sadly miscarried, which meant the pair had to start the process over again from scratch.

When their new surrogate became pregnant earlier this year, Lance admits that the couple was “cautious to get excited.” He went on to say, “it kind of sucks because when you find out you’re pregnant, you want to celebrate with your family. You start planning their future in your head already, but we were so scared because we didn’t want to go through the pain again of losing them.” But they were thrilled when their surrogate made it to her ninth week of pregnancy and the pair felt it was finally safe to tell their families.

Having twins was a no-brainer for the couple because, for one, Michael is also a boy/girl twin. Twins also meant that each of them could fertilize one of the eggs! Although it's been a long and hard journey, Lance says, "We knew that we wanted to be very open and transparent with our experience because we wanted gay couples to be able to relate to us and say, 'Oh my gosh, we're going through that too.' Or like, 'Oh, now that's, hopefully, what we can do.' And give them a kind of a blueprint of how to do it."

The twins are expected to arrive in early November 2021, but Halloween-loving Lance is hoping they come a few days early because he, "need[s] them to be Halloween babies." Well, whenever the babies come, we're so excited for the amazing dads-to-be!
