Kate Winslet baby name explained

Bear Blaze... Possibly the most unique celebrity baby name since the arrival of North West. But, why...? What's the meaning behind it? Mom Kate Winslet, 38, gives us all the scoop on tonight's The Ellen Show.

“We settled on Bear quite early on,” the Oscar-winning actress said of her 14-week-old son at last night's taping of the show, adding that her kids, Mia, 13, and Joe, 10, wanted to choose a name ASAP before the baby arrived.

“A friend of mine when I was younger was nicknamed Bear, and I just had always really loved it," she explains. "He was very much a bear. He was everyone’s shoulder to cry on, he was a big bear hug, he was just this great figure in my life, and I just always remembered him.”

And remember that Caribbean house fire Kate escaped in 2011, when she was staying with Sir Richard Branson? Well, she met hubby Ned Rocknroll (Branson's nephew), on that trip—and they wanted to commemorate the event in their son's name.

"Bear's second name is Blaze because my husband and I met in a house fire basically," the Divergent actress shares. "Well will did. The house burned down and we survived. So we wanted something of the fire, and so Blaze was the name that we came up with."

Bear Blaze did not, however, get his dad's last name—he's Bear Blaze Winslet. When Ellen asked why, Kate replied, “Why do you think, Ellen?” Ha!

On tonight's show, Kate also talks about how strong moms are when it comes to caring for our children. She was pumping during last week's 4.4-magnitude earthquake in Los Angeles.

"I've never been in an earthquake," the Divergent star says. "No, never. And so it's 6:20-something-or-other and I'm sitting in the hotel here in L.A. and I'm pumping because I have a 14-week-old baby. I'm here for 48 hours I couldn't bring him. It's too far; it's a 12-hour plane ride. And so I'm pumping, starting at my beautiful picture of my beautiful baby boy and my husband's on the other line and the room starts to shake."

"I just carried on pumping through the whole entire thing," she laughs. "You know us girls! We just do it, don't we? When you do it, you just do it!" Yes, we do!
