Love 'em or hate 'em: get Haley's take on last night's 2012 Golden Globe Award style

Gorgeouses, I could spend hours on this. There were so many fabulous dresses at last night's Golden Globe Awards — not to mention all the tuxedos (Johnny Depp with his relatively cleanly-trimmed locks and his green vest deserves at least a mention). So, I made this list somewhat manageable with the absolute stand-outs. Check these out, and then share your thoughts, your faves, your least faves!
Without further ado, then, here are some of the best- and worst-dressed moms of the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards. CHECKIT!
Laura Dern (44, mom to Ellery Walker, 10.5, and Jaya,7) (left)
There's a reason she's beaming. Laura Dern, one of my favourite actresses of all time, SPARKLED in this dark-green, V-neck gown by Parisian designer Andres Gn. Not only does she look absolutely gorgeous in what I think is the perfect gown, but she also so-deservedly one Best Actress in a TV comedy/musical for her hit show Enlightened. Congratulations, Laura! Woohoo! (Now, if Brad Pitt had won over George Clooney for his awesome performance in Moneyball, this would have been the perfect night too. Ahh well.)
Jessica Alba (30, mom to Honor, 3, and Haven, 5 months)
She just gave birth last August, and LOOK AT HER. She looked healthy and sculpted, and very tanned. Some folks on Twitter said she looked like a Golden Globe herself, but I think she looked more like Oscar (GG's kind of round...). Like if Oscar were a woman, Jessica is what she would look like. Jessica presented in this fabulous light lilac charmeuse Gucci gown, which was embroidered in all the right places, and the audience, I think collectively stopped breathing.
Angelina Jolie (36, Mom to Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, Zahara, 7, Shiloh, 5.5, Vivienne and Knox, 3)
The audience also collectively held their breath for Angelina Jolie when she presented for Best Director in this flawless satin Atelier Versace gown — for fear that if they breathed, she might break. Seriously, she looked skinnier than ever in this magnificent off-the-shoulder gown. But the champagne colour made her fair skin positively glow, and those lips, as always, pop. Although she looked frighteningly skinny, she was literally breathtaking to look at.
Meryl Streep (62, mom to Henry "Hank" Wolfe Gummer, b. 1979, Mary Willa "Mamie" Gummer, b. 1983, Grace Jane Gummer, b. 1986, and Louisa Jacobson Gummer, b. 1991)
This dress will be on everyone's Worst Dress list, but I don't mind it...because it's just so Meryl! The lace cutouts add a Western flare, as did the, erm, ponytail. But she worked it. So, congrats to everyone's favourite actress for making that work, and for winning Best Actress again, woohoo!
Nicole Kidman (44, mom to Isabella Jane, 19, Connor Anthony, 17, Sunday Rose, 3.5, and Faith Margaret, 1)
Also on everyone's Worst Dressed list is Nicole Kidman and her gold-studded Versace gown (I left hubby Keith Urban in here because I know a lot of you love him!). Personally, I didn't notice this dress at all because I was too busy swooning at Clive Owen, who presented the award with her for I-don't-know-what (too busy swooning).
Salma Hayek (45, mom to Valentina Paloma Pinault, 4)
Salma Hayek definitely dazzled in this Gucci gown with the gold art deco. But it received mixed reviews. While the media consensus seems to be that this is a WINNER, and I think she was a vision of perfection, my 6-year-old daughter thought, "It looks weird." What do you think, Gorgeouses?
Kate Winslet (36, Mia Honey Threapleton, 11, Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes, 8)
It was Kate's night, yet again, last night. She won her third Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Mini-Series/TV Movie, for Mildred Pierce, of course. there was a lot of black and white on the red carpet last night, and Kate's floor-length Jenny Packham number was probably the best. She was the picture of elegance, as usual. Love!
Michelle Williams (31, mom to Matilda Rose Ledger, 6)
Michelle won her first Golden Globe award last night for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, shockingly beating out Charlize Theron! But the truly wonderful actress is due for an award already. I just wished she'd loosen up a bit. Like, take off the Alice-in-Wonderland hair band and ruffle up the hair. That Dawson's Creek wild girl is in there somewhere! Still, Marilyn would have been proud. Michelle looked truly lovely in her Jason Wu velvet gown.
Tina Fey (41, mom to Alice Zenobia Richmond, 6, and Penelope Athena Richmond, 5 months)
Just 5 months after the birth of her second daughter, Penelope, Tina Fey seriously rocked the red carpet in this fabulous fuchsia-tulle dress by Oscar de la Renta. I think Tina herself described it best: "This is confection!" By the way, Gorgeouses, did you notice when she hilariously "photo bombed" her friend Amy Poehler's nominee shot? Checkit here! Funny!
Madonna (53, mom to Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, 15, Rocco Ritchie, 10, David Banda, 6, Mercy James, 6)
And it was also Madonna's night last night. She won for Best Original Song. Though she seemed reserved and relatively small and a tad nervous for a legendary pop queen, she really dazzled in this metallic/dark green Reem Acra gown. Indeed, she made us all go "53"? Beautiful!
Sophia Vergara (39, mom to Manolo Gonzalez-Ripoll Vergara, 19)
Ahhh, Sophia was the talk of the evening, showing off her famous hour-glass figure in this stunning, ocean-blue mermaid dress by Vera Wang, and trillion-dollar jewelry by Harry Winston. GORJ!
There you have it, Gorgeouses! My roundup! Who would be on YOUR roundup! Which was your fave, your least fave?
And check out the best parenting quotes of the evening!
Love! xo Haley-O
