Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger (Nickelback!): Two Canadian stars ENGAGED (UPDATED with PHOTO!)

Canadian singer Avril Lavigne, 27, is engaged to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, 37. Cool!

Nobody saw this coming..., even though Avril and Chad were spotted out for lunch and some shopping back in May (left). Last I heard Avril was dating Marilyn Manson (but, apparently, that was, indeed a rumour)..., and I did have high hopes at one point for her and hottie Brody Jenner.

According to People Magazine, Avril and Chad dated for six months before he proposed with a 14-carat diamond ring, on August 8. "A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together," a friend of Avril's told People.

This will be the first marriage for Chad and the second for Avril, who divorced Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley three years ago.
