American Idol winner Kris Allen is going to be a dad!

Confession: I heart Kris Allen.

In case you don't remember him, Kris is the guy who beat out Adam Lambert for the win three years ago on American Idol. Remember that massive showdown? I was rooting for Kris strictly because of his awesome rendition of Kanye West's "Heartless" — plus, he's super cute.

Anyway, good news! Kris, 27, and his wife, Katy (his high-school sweetheart!), are expecting their first child!

How'd they announce the big news? By thanking their car company on Twitter — for saving their lives and that of the baby on the way!

“Thank you @Ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family @katyallen @zorropup [their] and the little one we have on the way safe,” he tweeted.

“Yes," he added, "I got in a really bad wreck tonight and yes I’m having a lil baby. #gonnabeadaddy."

Thankfully, they escaped the head-on collision virtually unscathed. Kris has a broken wrist, however, but will, he assured his followers, be well enough to go on with his current tour.

Katy and Kris tied the knot in 2008. Congrats to the family!
