Shakira welcomes a baby boy
It's a boy for Shakira and Gerard Piqué! We are particularly fond of the name they chose.
It's another boy for Shakira!
The Grammy award-winning "Hips Don't Lie" singer, 37, welcomed her second son with longtime boyfriend, soccer star Gerard Piqué, 27, on Thursday, January 29, at 9:54 p.m., in Barcelona.
And the baby's name is... Sasha Piqué Mebarak. (Since our Editor-in-Chief is Sasha Emmons, we quite love the name!)
Shakira shared the news and the origins of the baby's name on her website:
“The name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means ‘defender of mankind’ and ‘warrior,'” the post reads. “The hospital confirmed that both mother and child are in excellent health.”
How about that, Sasha! Look at you, all defender of humankind!

No Grammy nominations for Shakira this year—indeed, in response, Twitter exploded with #ShakiraDeservesGrammyNomination hashtag. She's set to welcome another album this spring.
