It's a girl for Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes (Update: Name!)

[Update:] The baby's birth certificate reveals that her name is Esmerelda Amada Gosling. "Amada" was actually the name of Eva's character in the movie We Own The Night (2007)—I guess she liked her character! What do you think of the name?

As our Ed-in-Chief, Sasha Emmons, put it, "hottest half-Canadian baby ever!"

Yes! Canadian heartthrob Ryan Gosling, 33, and girlfriend, actress Eva Mendes, 40, have welcomed a baby girl.

This is the first child for both of them, and she arrived Friday, Sept. 12. Us Weekly was the first to report the news after confirmation from "multiple sources."

No news on the name yet—and we're guessing, a la Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, we won't hear for a while (if ever!). In the meantime, baby Mendes-Gosling joins the couple's dogs, whose names we do know, Hugo and George.

The extremely guarded couple pulled out all the stops to keep the pregnancy private. Eva last walked the red carpet on February 26, at an event in L.A., honouring Elizabeth Taylor. Reports on the pregnancy surfaced in July, when it was said she was around seven months along. Since then, she and Ryan kept the bump concealed as much as possible with extra clothing and oversized bags.

Ryan and Eva met three years ago on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines, in which they actually costarred as parents. As for their careers now that the baby's here? It's up in the air for Ryan, alas!

“I’ll make movies until I make babies," he said in a 2011 interview with Us Weekly. "I have no idea when the handover will happen. When someone comes along [to] I don’t think I’ll be able to do both and I’m fine with that.”
