Tuning in to the Academy Awards this Sunday? Here are the celebrity-parent nominees to watch this year.
It's Oscars time! The 87th Annual Academy Awards are happening this Sunday eve, February 22. To prep for the main event, let’s review some of the talented parents who are up for awards this year.
(Psssst! Catch me tweeting live—@cheaty and @todaysparent—and share your fave fashion and parent moments with me. I may quote you in our “Moms who rock the Oscars red carpet” roundup Monday.)
Dad-of-two Steve Carell is nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Foxcatcher. (He's the least likely to win—Michael Keaton will take it home—but, especially after hearing him give several endearing interviews, he's my personal fave.)
Mom-of-two Julianne Moore is up for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Still Alice. This is Julianne's fifth Oscar nomination, and she's the front-runner in this category—so, maybe this is her year to win one, finally.
Michael Keaton is the front-runner for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Birdman. This is the first Oscar nomination, and likely win, for the Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! actor.
Dad-of-three Mark Ruffalo is finally getting serious accolades for his fine acting chops. He's nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Foxcatcher.
Rosamund Pike dazzled us on the Golden Globes' red carpet just five weeks after giving birth to her second child. Maybe she'll have had a little more sleep this weekend at the Oscars. She's up for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Gone Girl.
In her acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, mom-of-two Patricia Arquette melted hearts when she extended a touching thank-you to those who have supported her as a single mother. “My siblings,” she said, “and my friends who watched my kids while I was trying to build a career as a 20-year-old single mother.” She's up for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Boyhood.
Mom-of-three Reese Witherspoon is nominated for her second Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading role for Wild.
Dad-of-four Ethan Hawke (aka my high-school celebrity crush) is nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting role for Boyhood.
Mom-of-one Marion Cotillard is nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Two Days, One Night. She won Best Actress back in 2007 for her role in La Môme.
Dad-of-seven Clint Eastwood is up for his fifth Academy Award—this time for Best Picture, for American Sniper.
Mom-of-two Laura Dern is nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Wild. This will be her first Oscar nod since 1991, when she was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the movie Rambling Rose.
My favourite! Mom-of-four and three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep likely won't win this time, alas, but she's nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her awesome portrayal of the witch in Into the Woods.
Dad-of-two Neil Patrick Harris is, of course, the host of this year's Oscars. We expect lots of laughs and at least one show tune from our favourite The Smurfs star.
Love!
