Photographer Dianne Yudelson's powerful photo series "Lost" was inspired by the artist's own grief. Dianne had 11 miscarriages between 1993 and 2005.

Ten years after her last miscarriage, Dianne was helping a friend grieve. This triggered thoughts of her own pain and that's when she decided to create the deeply personal photo series to commemorate the babies she lost.

Each image is named after the baby it honours.

"With each loss of my 11 babies, I kept mementos. They are all kept pristinely stored in a white box in my closet, as are the memories of their short lives kept pristinely stored in my heart."

The artist and her husband have raised two children, but the grief from her miscarriages is ever present. Sharing her private memories has helped to ease some of the pain.

The photos are hard to see—but the love Dianne has for each of her kids is evident in the sweet mementos.
