Lose weight now! Get your pre-pregnancy body back today!

Those are the headlines you often see in the world of weight loss. But actress Kerry Washington is changing things up in her latest feature in Self Magazine's September issue—by making us think about the words we choose when we talk about getting our pre-baby body back.

“A few weeks ago, my manager asked: ‘Do you feel like you’re back? I feel like you’re back,'" the Scandal star tells the mag.

"She meant it as a total compliment," Kerry adds, "but we had this great conversation where I was like, ‘You know what? I try really hard not to use that language, because it’s not about going backward in life.’”

"I’ve been really focused on not being ‘back’ to anything but being the best version of myself right now," she explains. "My body is the site of a miracle now. I don’t want to be pre-miracle.”

Great new way of thinking about it, right? Our bodies will never be the same as they used to be. In fact, I recently read (Deepak Chopra, you guys...) that different parts of our body completely renew every several days, weeks, years. We are always changing.

Kerry and her hubby, Nnamdi Asomugha, welcomed baby Isabelle Amarachi last May (which makes her 17 months old).
