Emmys 2015: Moms who rocked the red carpet

Parks and Recreation star and mom-of-two Amy Poehler may not have won an Emmy, sighhh, but she definitely won the night—as soon as she stepped out on the red carpet in this fab Michael Kors gown with that awesome "arm party" going on (to borrow Flare's fitting phrase). But it was mom-of-one Viola Davis who won our hearts as the first woman of colour to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for her role in How to Get Away with Murder. "The only thing that separates women of colour from anyone else is opportunity," she said in her acceptance speech. "You cannot win an Emmy for roles that simply aren't there." Here's Viola, wearing a beautiful dress by Carmen Marc Valvo, holding up her history-making Emmy.

This Oscar de la Renta dress was probably my personal favourite of the night. Just because that colour is so bright and bold on the red carpet—a departure for the typically more subtle Maggie Gyllenhaal (mom of two and star of The Honorable Woman). Love, love.

Modern Family star and mom-of-one Sofia Vergara wins for best accessory of the night—Joe Manganiello. OMG, but the convenience store scene in Magic Mike XXL! What were we talking about? Sofia's gold St. John gown was also pretty fabulous, now that you mention it.

Veep star and mom-of-two Julia Louis-Dreyfus took home her fourth straight Emmy in this one-shouldered, form-fitting Safiyaa number. (I've really got to try to watch Veep already.) 

Scandal star mom-of-one Kerry Washington sparkled in this metalic Marc Jacobs dress. Incidentally, it was one of the only dresses of the night that wasn't floor-length. (Read more: Kerry Washington: My body is the site of a miracle now>)

America's Got Talent host and mom-of-four Heidi Klum sure brightened things up with this yellow Versace number—which is so complex it looks like it came straight off, well, the Project Runway catwalk. Interesting!

Modern Family actress and mom-of-three Julie Bowen never disappoints on the red carpet. To the 2015 Emmys, she wore this black Georges Chakra Couture gown with that unique three-shoulder-strap situation—and she really wanted us to know it: "If I don't give him some press here, he may not give me another dress," she said on the red carpet. Ha!

Homeland star and mom-of-one star Clare Danes looked pretty in this whimsical plum-coloured Prada gown. She also debuted what looked like a new bob but may have actually been a tucked "faux" bob.

Mom-of-two Amanda Peet looked elegant in this black Michael Kors gown—showing off her toned tummy with that midsection cut-out, and celebrating some major wins for hubby David Benioff's Game of Thrones.
