It was all over the news last night—Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have "consciously uncoupled." But, I was out celebrating my mom's big milestone birthday...

Yes, Gwyneth, 41, and Chris, 37, announced they're separating after 10 years of marriage and two kids—Apple, 9.5, and Moses, 7.5.

"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," they announced on Gwyneth's GOOP website, in a post entitled "Conscious Uncoupling."

"We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us," they write, "and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."

"We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been," they add. "We are parents first and foremost."

They conclude the note by asking for privacy at this time and sharing the hope that, as they "consciously uncouple and coparent," they'll be able to remain as private as they managed to be during their marriage.

The post is followed up by a long analysis of "conscious uncoupling" by Gwyneth's guru Dr. Habib Sadeghi and Dr. Sherry Sami. While I'm totally down with things done "consciously"—and I love that this is what's being stressed here—I'm trying to imagine who can get through that long analysis (I was yawning by the fourth line); if you can, please report back, and let us know what you gained from it in the comments.

Sad to hear Gwyneth and Chris are separating, but not all that surprised given the recent infidelity rumours and all those times Gwyneth has talked about the challenges of marriage. We wish them and the family the best on their new path.
