Apple is adding more diverse emojis this fall, and they're pretty awesome

Its new operating system will offer more than 100 redesigned emojis, including a rainbow flag, female athletes and more family options.

Girl power! Finally, after being forced to use mostly male-based or generic emojis in our text messages, we'll have more relatable options in the near future. Apple says that iOS users will have access to these new emojis on their devices with the new iOS 10 update this fall (which is said to be the biggest iOS release ever). Apple was looking to provide "popular emoji characters that better reflect diversity of people everywhere," and the 12-emoji preview that the company released online looks like it intends to deliver on that promise.

To start, Apple has added more female characters to its existing athletes, like the runner, the mountain biker, and even the body builder.

Expect to see more female emojis representing professional occupations on your iPhone as well, like the construction worker and detective.

The ones we love most are the diverse family emojis that will include, among other things, single-parent families. There's also a pride flag!

Finally, there's a new water pistol, which is rumoured to be replacing the revolver as a result of the rise in gun violence around the world.

If you're too excited to wait until fall (like we are!), you can try out a beta version of the iOS 10 software. Access it  here. For more info, see Apple's FAQ page.

Get ready for your text messages to get a lot more interesting, relevant to your life and colourful!
