Angelina Jolie: I never believed in true love until I had children

Angelina Jolie has successfully transformed, wouldn't you say? From rebellious, Brad Pitt-snatching, blood-wearing sex symbol to mother, humanitarian, activist, elegant and intelligent actress, writer, director. Whenever she comes up in conversation, someone remarks on this transformation. It's become hard not to admire her.

In the latest issue of HELLO! Canada Magazine (on stands now), this point is driven home in an exclusive interview, in which the Maleficent star talks about her kids, hubby-to-be Brad Pitt and more. Here are some great snippets...

On her greatest parenting pleasure... I tell my kids stories every night and I am always doing different voices.... There's nothing that gives me more pleasure than entertaining my children.

On the lesson she hopes Maleficent will teach her kids... They all got upset when Mommy got hurt [in], but I think the story made them feel good. Hopefully, it taught them that people can go to this dark place, but what is beautiful is that you can grow beyond it and find love and happiness.

On true love... I have never been romantic about it. I never believed in it, I think, until I had children. The moment I looked into Maddox's eyes in the orphanage, my entire world changed. And that was the first time I had experienced it.

On parenting with Brad... The way we treat each other in front of our children teaches them so much. The way Brad treats me, the way he takes care of me.... He is teaching them to respect women, and the girls are being shown an example of how they expect to be treated. I hope to do the same for the boys.

On balancing it all... I am very fortunate that I have a great partner and a job where I can bring my kids to work and take time off. I feel if I didn't participate in giving back and being useful to others, then I wouldn't deserve the life I have.

There is so much great stuff in this interview that it was hard to pick out snippets! Angelina also talks about wedding plans (none yet!), how Brad "crumbles" for Zahara, and how she's doing now that it's been a year since her double mastectomy. "I am doing great health-wise," she says, "and I am very happy I made the decisions I made to express what I had learned ... I hoped that it would help [others]." She plans to have more preventative surgery, she says, but won't go public with it until the process is complete.
