10 Best Diaper Bags for Every Type of New Parent

We tried the best diaper bags for every style, budget and parent. Here's what we loved most.

10 Best Diaper Bags for Every Type of New Parent

The diaper bag becomes an essential part of a new parent's life—only when it's packed properly can the family leave the house. It'll be stocked with everything you could need on the go, such as wipes, a changing pad, diapers and toys. (Feeling overwhelmed? Hit up our newborn checklist to make sure you have all these items ready.)

A diaper bag, just like a purse, can also be an extension of your style. We did the research so you don't have to: check out this list of some of the best diaper bags available for new parents.

What to look for in the best diaper bags

Above all, diaper bags should be lightweight and easy to clean, says Abby Ludwig, the VP of creator relations and parent education at Gugu Guru, a baby gear expert and mom of multiples. "They'll be thrown everywhere: the floor of the car, the bottom of the stroller, into shopping cart, etc," she says.

She recommends looking for a vegan leather, nylon or polyester blend which will make cleaning easier over time, and one that isn't heavy when empty. "Parents love the idea of getting large diaper bags they can stuff with everything, but you'll end up frustrated that you can't find anything in the bag and your back will hurt!" she says.

As far as features go, you'll want to also look for storage capacity, storage organization built into the bag and whether or not the bag matches your taste.

"If you don't want to carry it, you're never going to grab it to begin with," she says of how to choose a diaper bag. She's partial to bags that allow you to be completely hands-free, like a backpack or crossbody, but it's up to you what you'll carry most, and bags that have external storage pockets for last-minute additions like your phone or an extra bottle.
