Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and Handi-Craft Company have recalled a number of Dr. Brown’s Lovey pacifier and teether holders after discovering that repeated use and wear could result in the pacifier ribbons fraying or unravelling, allowing the snaps to inadvertently detach and posing a potential choking hazard.
The four recalled styles of pacifier and teether holders include a plush toy, which is held on to the pacifier or teether by a ribbon and set of snaps. The pacifier that accompanies the plush toy is not subject to this recall.
Consumers should verify their product is subject to the recall by visiting the company's website.
Approximately 10,500 products were sold in Canada between August 2015 and March 2018, and approximately 590,000 were sold in the United States between August 2015 to February 2018.
As of February 21, 2018, the company has received two reports of fraying or unravelling in Canada and 67 in the United States. There are currently no reports of injuries.
What should you do? Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Handi-Craft to receive a replacement product or other Dr. Brown's merchandise of equal or lesser value.
For more information, consumers can contact Handi-Craft toll-free at 1-833-224-7674 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday. Additional information and instructions can also be found on the company's website.
