12Baby cold cheat sheet

  • For congestion: Use a steamy bathroom (10-15 mins) and saline drops. Limit "snot sucking" to two to three times a day to avoid irritating delicate nasal linings.
  • For comfort: Acetaminophen (for babies 0+) or Ibuprofen (6 months+) can help with fever and fussiness. Always use the included syringe for accuracy.
  • The 12-month rule: Never give honey to babies under one year due to the risk of botulism.
  • Avoid the gunk: Skip over-the-counter cough medicines, homeopathic treatments and essential oils. They aren't proven to work and can be toxic to tiny systems.
  • Humidifier warning: The CPS recommends avoiding them unless you are prepared to deep-clean them daily to prevent mould growth.
  • Red Flags: Call the doctor if your baby is dehydrated (dry mouth/no tears), inconsolable, has difficulty breathing, or has a fever that won't budge.
