The Lansinoh Signature Pro Double Electric Breast Pump offers moms a budget-friendly and effective option when looking to invest in a double electric breast pump to use in combination with breastfeeding. We particularly like how it gives moms control over their pumping experience with three pumping styles, each with eight adjustable suction levels to choose from. Easy to use, assemble and clean, the Lansinoh Signature Pro Double Electric Breast Pump combines good quality with good value.
Overall, we found this pump to be fairly straightforward to assemble. Most of our parent testers found the pump was easy to put together and take apart, though one tester felt the instruction manual was only somewhat easy to follow. One of our mom testers particularly liked how most of the pump came assembled, so she could see how it was supposed to look after sterilization.
The Signature Pro manual includes a quick start guide, which is helpful for moms who need a refresher on how to set up their pump in a snap (Note: It’s important to read the entire manual before beginning to use your new pump to ensure correct and safe use). All of our testers agreed they were able to start using the pump fairly quickly. One tester found there were more parts than she was used to with other pumps, and would sometimes forget to include them in her assembly. The same tester also reported that the bottles and lids provided with the pump did not have a strong seal for storage.
All of our mom testers agreed they were able to use the Signature Pro without any discomfort. Only one tester said it was somewhat difficult to find a comfortable pumping position; the others found it comfortable. One of our parent testers with flat/inverted nipples found the Signature Pro very comfortable to use and reported no pain while using it. The ComfortFit Flange (the breast shield) lived up to its name: all of our testers somewhat to strongly agreed that the 25-mm flange felt comfortable against their breast, and none had any issues with sizing. If you need to go bigger, however, Lansinoh also offers a larger 30.5-mm flange.
The Lansinoh Signature Pro Double Electric Breast Pump provides a customizable pumping experience with eight suction levels for each of the three pumping styles (which include a short, quick sucking pattern, a moderate sucking pattern and a long, slow sucking pattern). All our testers enjoyed having the option to choose a pumping style and agreed that choosing a setting was somewhat to very easy. We like how all of this information is clearly presented on the pump’s backlit LCD screen, and how everything is controlled by five simple buttons (the on/off button, the let-down/expression toggle button to switch between phases, the pumping style toggle button and the plus and minus suction controls). One of our mom testers loved that the LCD screen featured a timer so she no longer had to keep an eye on the clock to know how long she’d been pumping—a feature she found particularly useful at night.
None of our parent testers had any issues getting an airtight seal between the flange and their breast. Some said they experienced occasional leaking around the breast shield while pumping, but the leaks were described as a dribble to a few drops once or twice. All our mom testers found it somewhat to very easy to detach the bottles without spilling any milk. None of our testers reported any leaking around the bottles while pumping.
All of our testers found it easy to adjust the suction levels while pumping. However, one mom did feel the suction of the pump could have been stronger overall, and she noted that her breasts were not fully drained after pumping. This is a consideration because you could end up with blocked ducts and/or mastitis if your breasts aren’t completely drained—in fact, the mom who reported the problem experienced a new occurrence of a blocked duct while using this pump. But it’s important to note blocked ducts can happen with any pump, or even with breastfeeding alone. All of the other pumping moms reported that their breasts felt drained after a pumping session. No other testers reported any nipple pain, cracking or bleeding.
Like many other double electric pumps, the Lansinoh Signature Pro Double Electric Breast Pump can be used as a single pump. To do this, simply remove one of the 300-mm tubes from the Y connector and insert the connected plug in its place. None of our testers had any difficulty pumping only one breast at a time.
Of all the double electric pumps we tested, the Signature Pro was the quietest, and all but one of our testers described the noise level as “not very loud.” Only one parent tester felt they couldn’t pump in the same room as a sleeping baby or partner without waking them.
The pump is designed to prevent milk from entering the tubing, and we found it was easy to clean the Signature Pro by hand or in the dishwasher. (Note: As with any pump, check the instructions for which parts are dishwasher-safe.) Only one parent tester felt that the six pieces of the pump were more than she was used to cleaning, but she found the pieces easy enough to clean so this wasn’t a deal-breaker. None of our parent testers noticed any condensation in the tubing after cleaning, and one tester remarked on how few places there are for milk to actually get stuck.
The Lansinoh Signature Pro Double Electric Breast Pump is one of the lightest double electric breast pumps awarded the Today’s Parent Approved seal. The pump comes with its own tote bag for storing and transporting. The majority of our mom testers found the pump compact and the control buttons easy to use.
The vast majority of our parent testers found that the Signature Pro packed up nicely and was easy to use when away from home. One mom particularly enjoyed being able to use this pump with batteries, making it even more portable. While one tester felt the pump required a lot of batteries (six AAs) to run unplugged, those who used batteries found them easy to install.
All of our parent testers were overall somewhat to very satisfied with the Lansinoh Signature Pro Double Electric Breast Pump, with the majority rating its quality and performance as very good. They all agreed the value of this pump is good or very good, and most said it’s somewhat better or much better than other pumps they’d previously used. Most also said they would recommend it to other moms. Since it’s so easy to use and has customizable pumping settings, all at a budget-friendly price, we think this pump is a good option for moms who need an efficient pump to use in combination with breastfeeding.
