Finding an amazing pair of jeans can be tough on a regular day, but throw in an ever-changing body for the nine months and it can feel like an overwhelming endeavor. We’ve rounded up the best styles that check all the boxes: comfort, style and yes, a great fit.
If you already own a great pair of jeans that you love, getting them altered to fit your tummy is a good option. “Our in-house tailors work personally with each client to find the best stretch material fitted to the individual's body and personal preferences,” says Daniel Carman, Co-Owner of Over the Rainbow in Toronto. The service costs $60 and the pregnancy panel is permanently sewn into your jeans.
If you’re buying online, choose a store that makes the full experience easy for you—preferably free shipping with a pre-paid mail slip for fuss-free returns. If you’re unsure about your size (I was for my entire pregnancy), order two sizes of each style to ensure you won’t end up frustrated or jean-less. While the general rule is to stick to your pre-pregnancy size when ordering maternity clothing, this is just a guideline. Pay attention to the cut (is it loose or slim?) as well as the amount of stretch the denim offers (1% elastane vs 5%). It makes a dramatic difference when it comes to fit.
Here are seven styles that get rave reviews when it comes to fit and value:
What we love: For earlier in pregnancy the smaller side panels are ideal so you won’t feel constricted. The stretch is also decent as your tummy grows.

What we love: For anyone who refuses to deviate from wearing leggings during their pregnancy, this line if for you. The biker-inspired details on the front and the medium- wash denim instantly kick your basics into high-gear.

What we love: While the maternity offerings can sometimes be limiting, finding a petite length can be even more difficult. These timeless dark-wash jeans will take you from the office, weekend to casual evenings out. (BTW: For non-petites, we also love the regular-length inseam from Thyme Maternity)

What we love: The Rockstar silhouette is known to fit a wide variety of body types—mainly for it’s decent amount of stretch and versatile slim cut. This maternity version offers the coverage of a full-panel around the tummy (they also have styles with side panels) and an excellent selection of sizes (from size 1-18).

What we love: While the price point might get you into the store, it’s the cute on-trend styles that will keep you. The distressed finish gives a quick refresh to this staple and the slim cut still offers plenty of stretch for comfort.

What we love: If you’re looking for a wider range of silhouettes (like cropped flares or looser cuts), Topshop maternity offers a range of stylish fits. This over-the-bump band with a slouchy style boasts a roomier cut that pairs well with sweaters, t-shirts or a great bomber jacket.

What we love: These fit exactly like a regular pair of jeggings, just stretchier, making them ultra-comfortable. The lightweight denim is also great in the warmer weather.
