Claire’s, an American accessories and beauty company, has pulled a number of makeup gift sets off shelves after reports of a potential asbestos contamination.
The recall comes after a parent in Rhode Island had a makeup set tested by a lab with the assistance of WJAR-TV. The lab confirmed that the product, as well as a number of other products from the company, contained traces of tremolite asbestos. In response, the company has pulled nine products from stores as a precautionary measure while it investigates.
In a statement, the company said it will be conducting “an independent laboratory to test the cited products in order to determine whether the recent news reports are accurate.”
The affected products include the Ultimate Mega Make Up Set, Metallic Hot Pink Glitter 48 Piece Makeup Set and Bedazzled Rainbow Heart Makeup Set.
The full list of makeup sets can be found here.
What should you do? If you have one of the recalled products, you should stop using it immediately and return the products to stores for a full refund. For more information, consumers may contact Claire’s by telephone at 1-800-804-7194 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. C.S.T., daily, or by email at customersupport@claires.com.
