Lorna Bramley, a veteran career counselor in Edmonton, offers these top tips for a successful career transition
Make a shopping list of what you want in a new job. Consider location, atmosphere, hours, responsibilities, salary, flexibility, etc.
Counter any self-doubt or confidence issues by doing a thorough self-examination. What are your values? What are your passions? What innate skills do you have? What skills do you want to learn?
Talk to people in your desired field. It’s important to gain specific knowledge about the job and its requisite education.
Set a timeline for your goals. Keep track of checkpoints and have realistic, incremental milestones as you progress with your studies. Celebrate your achievements along the way, making sure to include the whole family. This will help keep everyone focused on the end result instead of the daily challenges.
When choosing a university or diploma program, comparison shop for on-campus
daycare. Look for student discounts and check to see if your income qualifies you for a subsidized space.
