Coming soon: Two Sleeping Beauty remakes and a 3D re-release of Finding Nemo!

Sleeping Beauty is about to receive the Hollywood treatment. Some of you may have already seen the recently released photos of Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, in the upcoming 2014 live-action Disney film of the same name. Maleficent revolves around the untold story of Disney’s most beloved (wait, is that true?) villain, from the 1959 animated classic, Sleeping Beauty.News came out earlier this week that Hollywood producer Neal Moritz (21 Jump Street) is working on his own Sleeping Beauty revamp to be set in the modern world. It's strikingly similar to the situation earlier this year, when two live-action Snow White adaptations were released back to back: The family-friendly Mirror, Mirror, starring Julia Roberts, and the more adult-geared Snow White and the Huntsmen, featuring Kristen Stewart. Let’s hope one of these Sleeping Beauty remakes will be something the kids can watch. In other Disney news, for those of you who were excited about Finding Nemo hitting theatres again on September 14, 2012 — in 3D this time — you’ll also by happy to know there's a sequel in the works. No release date has been announced yet.In the meantime, here’s what we have to look forward to this fall from Disney on the big screen:Parents might look forward to the release of Frankenweenie, a new stop-motion animated flick brought to you from director Tim Burton. Frankenweenie is a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. But, guessing from the title, this is no ordinary dog! And check out this cast of voices: Winona Ryder, Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara. It hits theatres on October 5th, 2012.Another upcoming family flick is also one of my most anticipated animated films. Wreck It Ralph is an arcade-game adventure, featuring another all-star cast of comic geniuses: John C. Reilly (as Ralph), Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer (30 Rock) and Jane Lynch (Glee). The story centres around Ralph (the game’s designated “bad guy”) and Fix-It Felix (the game’s designated “good guy”). Ralph’s determination to become the hero for once, takes him on a journey across the arcade and through generations of video games. This one is set for release on November 2nd, 2012.What upcoming family films are your kids excited about?
