Your baby

• Your baby is about the same size as a green olive. From the top of his head to the bottom of his buttocks, he's about 22 to 33 mm (0.9 to 1.2 in) long.
• Though his eyelids are still developing, they just about cover his eyes now.
• Your baby can move his body and his limbs now, and it's possible to see these movements during an ultrasound test.

Mom on the move
It’s been a long time since caregivers recommended that pregnant women put their feet up for nine months! While it’s important to relax and to listen to your body, moderate exercise has undisputed benefits for you and your growing baby.

So keep on moving, mama! In early to mid-pregnancy, you can probably continue your current fitness activities, perhaps with some adjustments. Check with your doctor, and learn the do’s and dont’s of pregnancy fitness and why it’s important to adapt your exercise routine to accommodate your changing body. Warm up, cool down, drink plenty of fluids, and don’t overdo it; if certain moves become awkward or painful, for example, stop doing them.

More of a couch potato type? We get it. But you might be surprised at how great you feel when you add a little activity to your routine.

Should you go organic?
Is it wise to spend the extra dollars and switch to organic produce when you’re pregnant? A nutritionist weighs in.

On the job and pregnant
When and how you tell your employer that you're pregnant is completely up to you. However, if you're working in an environment where you're exposed to harmful or toxic substances or dangerous physical hazards, break the news sooner rather than later, so you can have your duties reassigned. To find out how chemicals and environmental agents in your workplace may affect your baby, contact Motherisk. Telephone: 416-813-6780.

Looking ahead
With all the emotions of a new pregnancy swirling around in your head, why not start a pregnancy journal to chronicle this amazing journey? Include photos, mementos, thoughts and questions, so you’ll have it all in one special place. A digital album is another easy way to keep an ongoing record that you can personalize with captions, scans and photos of your growing belly. When your baby grows up, he’ll love to look back on the story of him!
