Are YOU ready for school?
By mid-August every year, we often pose this question to our kids. I remember my children's reactions over the years, ranging from shy agreement and perhaps a tinge of apprehension to resignation and even some eye-rolling from the teenager in the family.
But I think the question is best asked of us. Are we ready? Whether your
little guy is embarking on his first
day of preschool or kindergarten,
or is a seasoned veteran at the ripe old age of eight like my Tim, mom
and dad need to be prepared. From the practical aspects of picking
the best backpack and stocking the kitchen for the first week's lunches, to
making sure kids are emotionally
ready for the school year ahead, our Back-to-School
Guide has plenty of tips to ease us all through the transition. Plus,
check out our annual Top
Schools report and see if your child's school made the grade!
Until
next time,

Tips to Keep You Cool - From firefighter Shane
Ferguson:
Remember the TV commercial about the octopus electrical outlet, with about eight items plugged into one outlet? It’s a great reminder of the fact that overloaded outlets create heat that can cause a fire. The same thing goes for extension cords under carpets. So do a safety sweep of your home - it could help prevent a disastrous electrical fire!
