Christmas 2010: Christmas Eve is a very special night in our house as that’s when all the magic happens! My youngest son, Darien, loves to put out the milk and cookies for Santa — and a carrot and some water for his reindeer too, of course. Because my husband has a giant sweet tooth and constantly steals his boy’s treats to "check if they’re poison", my son must always choose and test one of Santa’s cookies before he goes to bed. Lori Lewis' family
This photo is special to me because it was our first Christmas in the new home that I worked for three years as a single mom to save up for. Also, it was their new baby sister's first Christmas. She's 1.5 months old in this photo. ~ Lori Lewis from Winnipeg, Manitoba

Margaret McDougall's daughter
This is Grandma Davina and my daughter, Rosalee, in their brand new Canucks jerseys. Being a fan is passed on from generation to generation and starts young! Rosalee loved her new jersey, and we love her. ~ Margaret McDougall, Port Hardy B.C.

Jennifer Komorowski's son, Ethan
One of my favourite photos of my son, Ethan. It's one of my favourites because of the excited look on his face, and how cute he looks in his Christmas outfit. ~ Jennifer Komorowski from St. Marys, Ontario

Kim Turpin's son
I had bought a Santa suit for my son to wear for our Christmas open house, but my sister was convinced it would be too small. When the day came, she was right — and it looked like it was painted on! Everyone found our little stuffed sausage in a Santa suit to be super-amusing though and we still laugh about it! ~ Kim Turpin from Victoria, B.C.

Renee Jedlicka's son, Thorin
This is my son, Thorin, who just turned one in this picture. He was given the honour of putting the angel on top of the tree. This was Christmas 2011, he will be much more enthusiastic this year! ~ Renee Jedlicka from Spiritwood, Saskatchewan

Jennifer Vear's daughter, Hayden
It was Christmas 2010 and we captured pure joy and crazy Christmas morning hair as my daughter Hayden jumped (for hours) on her toy from Santa. Everytime I see this picture it still brings a huge smile to my face. ~ Jennifer Vear from Aurora, Ontario

Rebecca Hanna's family
We are the Hanna Family and we live on Frost Trail in Barrie. Because we live on Frost we thought we would build Frosty. This is our favourite family picture with our Frosty! Merry Christmas! ~ Rebecca Hanna from Barrie, Ontario

Jodi Crerar's son, Gavin
My son Gavin was 18 months old in the picture and, believe it or not, was having a lot of fun. We had dressed him in his Christmas jams and a hat and attempted to take a bunch of family pictures in front of the tree. We did get a bunch of those "we're having a great time, Merry Christmas, from our family to yours" type pictures and I love them, but this one makes me laugh every time. I took it as he was running across the room on a whim. Any time Christmas stress gets to me and I start to get that same expression on my face, I just pull out this picture and laugh for a few minutes. ~ Jodi Crerar from Calgary, Alberta

Jillian Archer's daughter
My daughter and I made a snowman. When I went to get him a hat she gave him legs and put a head underneath it. She said it had sat on someone. So she threatened the snowman that he’d better get off of him... OR ELSE! ~ Jillian Archer

Christine Villeneuve's family
Christmas holidays 2011: Here are my two little ones, Cole and Shelby, after a fun-filled day of snowball wars, sledding down hills and, of course, building a little friend named Frosty. Then we headed home for nice warm baths, followed by snuggling up on the couch watching our favourite Christmas movies while drinking hot chocolate. Something about this time of year really brings families together. Can't wait for the first snow fall this year! ~ Christine Villeneuve from Toronto

Sandra Winninger's son, Matthew
This is my favourite photo of my son, then two years old. We always dress up in historic clothing (my husband works in museums) for our yearly photo. Matthew was thrilled to sit on the horse and it shows in his smile. We’ve had six other years of photos but, in this one, he’s the most natural and really enjoying it. ~ Sandra Winninger

Christmas 1977: Whenever I need to go to my "happy place", I picture myself as a child lying in bed on December 24. I almost always spent it at my grandmother's home, tucked in an old army sleeping bag on the floor of the guest bedroom, with my sisters beside me. But sleep would be impossible knowing that, in the morning, there would be so much joy in various forms: presents, sure, but also delicious meals, treats all day long, and the guarantee that everyone I loved would be happy for at least one day.

Christmas 2007: Our first Christmas with Lucy. We took several shots and Lucy eventually fell asleep while I propped her up. I remember this as our first holiday as a complete family and that’s what I always want Lucy to know — that even though she’s the youngest and may feel she’s competing for attention, she completed our family picture.

Christmas 2011: Christmas morning in our house is just what you might imagine with two rambunctious boys, ages 3 and 8. It’s chaotic, exciting and totally warm and fuzzy! First, there’s always a race downstairs to see if the big man’s reindeer left any carrots or paw prints in the snow. Next we’re drawn to the Christmas tree where a handful of presents are labeled with their names. The boys are usually pretty gracious and take turns opening the gifts — while Mommy annoyingly snaps pictures, and Daddy takes video. After the room is a mess with wrapping paper and Christmas chocolate renderings, it’s off to Grandma and Papa’s house for our annual breakfast with the family. I just love Christmas morning — a cozy time to reminisce about when my sister and I shared that very same excitement.

Christmas holidays 2009: Rory was 4. Her daycare put on a play and she was given the main role of Snow Queen. She was so excited, practising her lines and her songs every day. They decorated the entire classroom and turned it into a winter wonderland. This was her expression when she first walked out and saw all the parents there. To me, her face shows all the wonder of the holidays.

Christmas Eve 1987: This is always my favourite time of the year. To this day I still get a little knot of excitement in my stomach on Christmas Eve, in anticipation of Christmas morning. My sister and I have fond memories of spending those mornings with our parents, sipping tea, opening presents and eating gingerbread cookies (the one morning of the year where we were allowed to start the day with a cookie for breakfast). When I look back now I realize it probably wasn't just fun and meaningful to my sister and I, but my parents as well (who, I'm certain, fed off of our excitement). When I think of Christmas I think of spending the day with the people l love.
