What happens when girls are free to imagine they can be anything

A new Barbie commercial encourages girls to be whatever they want to be.

What happens when girls are free to imagine they can be anything

As the old, catchy Barbie tune goes, “Be who you wanna be, B-A-R-B-I-E.” And this new commercial takes Barbie’s slogan to the next level by imagining a world where girls can be whatever they want.

So what would these girls be?

A little professor giving a lecture on the brain to a class of university students: “Do you know why dogs aren’t as smart as people? ’Cause there’s no high school for dogs!”

A little veterinarian showing off her handmade name tag while treating her furry patients.

A feisty little soccer coach in pink, drilling her team of male soccer players: “Knees up like unicorns, please!”

The big plot twist is revealed at the end, when we see a little girl playing with her Barbies, who are the university students and the professor.

The final words are “When a girl plays with Barbie, she imagines everything she can become.” To quote the Spice Girls, that’s some serious girl power!
