This just in from Transport Canada and Health Canada: Don't cross-border shop for car seats or booster seats. It is in fact illegal to both import or use seats from the US or abroad because they don't necessarily follow Canadian safety standards, and can't easily be tracked for recall notices.

For more information, please visit the following websites:

One more reminder from Transport Canada and Health Canada:
When you are buying a car seat in Canada, either online or offline, make sure to look for the National Safety Mark label (pictured above) on the seat to make sure it follows Canada's safety regulations.
And, of course, make sure the seat is appropriate for your child's age and development.

It is unfortunate that we pay more here in Canada but our seats are not always the same as those for the US. Often we have differences such as more EPS foam in the head area and now with the new regulations all seats that rear face need to pass a rebound test. There are obvious physical changes to many seats now.

I think it is unfair we pay so much for car seats in Canada as compared to the prices in the US for the same car seat, and if you look at the fine print the car seat from Canada and the US are manufactured in the same place, and one is stamped with English and Spanish and the other with English and French...big deal!
