Amazing!

Scandalous September!

This month has been rife with so-called parenting scandals. First it was Jessica Simpson and her baby bikini photos, which drew major criticism and outrage, and now it's Kourtney Kardashian, 33, because she pulled out her new baby, Penelope Scotland Disick, with her own two hands in front of the whole world — on her reality TV show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. (This isn't the first time Kourtney has shared her birth video with the masses. She did the same with her now-2.5-year-old son Mason.)

I finally had the chance to watch it last night, and I was amazed:

A) I was amazed that she could reach over her belly and pull out the baby (I could never have done that!).
B) I was amazed that her brother Rob Kardashian, stepdad Bruce Jenner, and Kanye West (Kim Kardashian's boyfriend), were in the room watching the baby's head come out....
C) I was amazed at how calm and relaxed Kourtney was.
D) I was amazed that doctors actually let you pull out your own baby. I mean, who knew that was an option? (Now we know....)
E) I was pretty amazed that they televised this whole, very personal event.

"Kourtney just loves pulling out her own children,” her sister Khloe says to the cameras, after the birth. “She decides to pull Nelly out, as well.”

Anyway, as your Celebrity Candy host, it's my job to bring you the latest buzz. And the people are buzzing big time about this — people are calling it gross, a sell-out, a what-will-they-stoop-to-next-bathroom-footage outrage, etc., etc. But others are praising the video for showcasing vaginal birth. The scheduled C-section rates are off the charts in the US, so this is a step in a new direction, and gives moms who want to have a natural birth some inspiration.

Didn't see the video? Here it is....

What do you think? Amazed like I am? Shocked? Annoyed? Love it? Mad? Tell us!

Love!

When my second child was born in 2002, I was offered the chance to touch my daughter's head before she was fully born. I declined lol, but I could have if I had wanted to. I don't see what the big deal was. If someone didn't want to watch, turn the channel, or don't click the video. There are tons of birth shows on television these days, it's not something 'new' I have heard of similar birth experiences over the years, mainly with midwives or doulas. I am sure I saw a water birth on TV many years ago where the mother reached down (she was on her knees) and pulled her baby out. Why not?

AMAZED!!!! how cool is that! I delivered my eldest vaginally and I also delivered my twins vaginally!!! WISH I could have pulled them out myself. Never even thought to do it.. although might not have been able to reach over my huge belly with the twins! What an amazing thing to share.. and to show that birth is not a negative scary thing.. scary sometimes yes.. but also a miracle.. every single time.. it is a miracle!

People get outraged over the simplest of things...........and birth is something natural.
There was nothing wrong with that video at all.
The only thing that would bother me, if I were her, is the amount of people in the room. Obviously that's okay with her, but it wouldn't be with me. When my daughter was born, it was just me and my husband in there with the medical staff, and family met us afterwards, and that is how I would want it.
    But..........whatever.............I don't understand people's outrage.
And as for her pulling her own child out.........so what???? I don't understand the outrage behind that either. I'll just keep on shaking my head, I guess.

Do not love or even care for the Kardashians, but what the heck is people's problems??!! If you don't like the idea of the video, DON'T WATCH.... what she did (pulling out the baby/video-taping the birth) is something people have been doing for years. I was lucky enough to have no complications with my 2nd child and was able to pull her out myself as well - it was magical and completely normal...wish I had been able to do it with my 3rd & 4th deliveries. GOOD ON YOU KOURTNEY!

I thought it was beautiful to see how much mom connected to baby immediately. Nothing gross about it.

I had both my daughter's with midwives and they encouraged me to pull out my baby once the head was out. It is a totally natural thing and people should stop being such critics. Whether I would go on live tv and deliver is another thing but as for her choice of how to deliver, that is up to her and her doctors. It doesn't impact the health or well being of the baby so people should just keep their noses out of it.

Are people reacting badly to this? I think it's great. Nice to have something like this on a reality show. The more real births on TV the better.

I do not think it is gross, I do not think it is wrong. TONS of women share their birthing videos daily on TLC on Baby Story or Birth story or Make room for Multiples...so why is this so wrong?

And as for her pulling the baby out, more power to her! I love her, she is a great Mom and they are a great family.

Anyone who has a problem with it could have shut the TV off.

If you don't like it, don't watch it to the naysayers. You do have a choice not to watch it.
    I say Bravo to Kourtney.
    1. She showed a very real vaginal birth on TV, not some fake movie birth. She had an epidural and showed pain. She made choices and stood behind her decisions. Awesome.
    2. I think it will encourage more women (and family/men) to be involved in the actual birth with showing her pulling out the her babe to the populas of America that may have ever seen that or heard of it.
    3. Its not gross. It life and something beautiful. If anything, it made me a little sad that I didn't film my babies births.

Pretty fantastic I think!! Even if it was a Kardashian I think that is the most wonderful experience being able to grab your baby and help bring them the rest of the way into the world. I got to do that and the thought that not only my lower body got to help but my hands got to help this wonderful miracle!!

Pretty amazing. I'd love to know if she was calm because she was in a natural state OR if she was calm due to epidural and drugs.

They allowed me to pull my last daughter out if I wanted. I didn't do it. I just didn't want to. I wasn't grossed out by it though. And I am not at all disturbed by the video. I think it was "tactful" in that nothing extraordinary happened. It's childbirth....in an age when technology is giving us the ability to record our life experiences. This is a life experience. People post this stuff all over the internet, so who cares if she uses it in her show. Just my opinon of course.
