Kim Kardashian has been open about her struggles with infertility and the serious complications she endured during her first pregnancy with daughter North, now two years old.

In a new interview with C Magazine, the 34-year-old reality TV star gives us an update on her health, saying she thinks her secondary infertility was caused by the placenta accreta she suffered from during her first pregnancy—a rare and potentially deadly condition in which the placenta sticks too tightly to the uterine wall, leading to hemorrhaging.

"There were a couple of little operations to fix all that," she tells the mag, "so that created a little hole in my uterus, which I think made it really tough to get pregnant again."

"It was a long road," she says of her struggle to get pregnant again. "I would go to the doctor in Beverly Hills every day at five in the morning to get tested to see if I was ovulating. I was trying everything: I did acupuncture and got a nutritionist to eat healthier, thinking that was an issue."

Kim adds that the process made trying to conceive no fun! "Yes, it takes the fun out of it," she says. "I’m like, 'I’m ovulating, get home now!' He’d be like, 'Wait, I’m in the studio.'”

Having a third child is likely out of the question for the Kardashian-West family—especially since if Kim has placenta accreta again, they may have to remove her uterus.

"Well, they think I'll have placenta accreta again," she says, "so if the placenta grows a little bit deeper than it did last time, then they are prepared to have my uterus removed, which is a little scary for me. I think we’re just gonna go day by day, see how overwhelming it is, and see how the delivery goes."

Kim also suffered from preeclampsia during her first pregnancy—but, so far so good this time around.

"I also feel lucky that as of right now, I don’t feel like I’m gonna get preeclampsia again," she says, "which last time [contributed] not only the weight, but also the swelling that everyone would make fun of, not understanding that I had this condition."

And can we expect to see some of the outrageous maternity outfits we saw during her first pregnancy?

"For this pregnancy, I’m definitely [dressing] more simple," she said. "I figured out a formula of what works."

We wish her all the best.
