Q: Breastfeeding my one-month-old daughter is going well, but I’m concerned about how much she spits up. Sometimes it seems like there’s more coming out than going in! Is it possible she’s not getting enough milk?

A: If your daughter is alert, gaining weight, peeing and pooping, she’s getting enough milk. To minimize her spit-up, make sure she has a good latch and isn’t swallowing too much air. Smaller, more frequent feedings, and holding her in a more upright position, can also help. Burp her mid-feeding; this may slow her down and decrease gulping. If you need advice, hospital-based lactation clinics can help.
